WORLDVIEWS OF THE WEST

OMNIBUS I-VI

WORLDVIEWS OF THE WEST:  OMNIBUS LEVELS I-VI

We have chosen the Omnibus curriculum from the publisher Veritas Press as the foundation for our Worldviews of the West program. Omnibus is a Bible-based Great Books curriculum for middle school and high school students that trains them in the lessons from the past in order to live in the present. It is a 6-year study of the great works of Western Civilization, presented in 2 cycles. The teaching emphasizes grappling with ideas and pushing the student's limitations of conceptual thought rather than merely gathering information. More importantly, students are helped to evaluate the great ideas they encounter in the light of the Scriptures. Omnibus is the curriculum preferred by a host of classical Christian educators for teaching history, theology, and literature in the home or school classroom, which is why we have adopted it as the core of our Worldviews of the West curriculum. By progressing through this comprehensive study, students gain a solid, biblical foundation for examining the worldviews of the Western world. Each course integrates the subjects of history, literature, and theology into an expansive 2.5-unit course.*

WORLDVIEWS OF THE WEST:  FIRST CYCLE (Grades 7-9)

Biblical and Classical Civilizations (Omnibus I)

Omnibus I is the first text in the first cycle of the Omnibus curriculum. While students may enroll in any level, Omnibus I is an ideal entry point for middle school to early high schoolers. In this first level, the emphasis is on ancient history and literature from early civilizations through Ancient Rome. Modern literature is also added to add balance and interest.

Available in 2025-2026

Christianity and the Medieval World (Omnibus II)

The emphasis in this course is on the history and literature of the medieval period through the Protestant Reformation. Assignments and discussions come from our study of medieval history and theology, and the primary literature is based on authors of the period. In addition to these masterworks, students also read secondary titles that correlate with and add interest to our study.

Available in 2023-2024

Modern World Since the Reformation (Omnibus III)

Omnibus III is the final text in the first cycle of the Omnibus curriculum. Omnibus III leads the student through the study of the great works of the modern world from the time of the Reformation. Readings and discussions are based on modern British and U.S. history and theology, and the literature is taken from the same period.

WORLDVIEWS OF THE WEST:  SECOND CYCLE (Grades 10-12)

The Ancient World (Omnibus IV)

Omnibus IV is the first text in the second cycle of the Omnibus curriculum. Like Omnibus I, this course starts at the beginning of time to the fall of Rome. However, it includes more difficult texts to challenge the growing rhetorical nature of the older student, engaging him or her at a higher academic level. Daily readings, assignments, and other activities lead students to interact with great works of Western Civilization in a challenging, enjoyable, and profitable way. Students continue to practice composition, apply logic, and develop an appreciation for beauty and goodness.

Available in 2025-2026

The Medieval World (Omnibus V)

Omnibus V covers the period of the early church fathers through the Protestant Reformation. High school students receive a greater academic challenge as they progress through more advanced books of the Medieval period. Students are encouraged to interact with various masterworks of the Western world. At this level, they continue to apply and further develop their rhetorical skills, develop aesthetic appreciation, and cultivate a recognition of goodness.

The Modern World (Omnibus VI)

This is the capstone Omnibus program covering modern U.S. and British history. High school level students delve into more difficult texts selected from the greatest works of Western Civilization.
