Our courses are designed to form students in wisdom, critical thinking, and eloquent communication. Students complete daily at-home assignments and attend in-person Discussion Days to practice writing, speaking, and reasoning under guided instruction. Parents play an important role in supporting learning at home, reviewing assignments, and engaging students in meaningful dialogue. This page outlines the key expectations, schedules, and guidelines for a successful year.
Discussion Days
Discussion Days are in-person meetings designed for meaningful dialogue, instruction, and practice based on students’ assignments from the rest of the week.
- Omnibus courses: 2 group meetings per week (Tuesdays and Thursdays, ~1.25 hours each).
- Writing, Rhetoric, and Senior Thesis: 1 weekly group meeting (~1 hour, Tuesdays or Thursdays).
These sessions provide guided instruction, feedback, and opportunities for students to practice discussion, writing, and presentation skills.
Daily Assignments
Students complete at-home assignments via Google Classroom (typically Google Docs or Templates). Moderate typing skills are required.
- Assignments are submitted before Discussion Days to allow preparation and teacher feedback.
- Beyond content mastery, assignments develop logical thinking, critical analysis, and writing skills.
Time expectations:
- Omnibus: ~2+ hours/day of reading, writing, and preparation
- Writing, Rhetoric, & Senior Thesis: ~1 hour/day, 3 days/week
- Senior Thesis: More time for research and writing, especially in the second semester
- Weekly assignment schedules are posted on Fridays for planning and organization.
Expectations for Parents
These courses are rigorous, and parent involvement is essential:
- Oversee at-home assignments and discuss key topics with your child
- Review Google Classroom weekly for assignments, grades, and teacher communications
- Assist with volunteer supervision on campus to meet the host church’s two-adult requirement
Grading
Students are evaluated on:
- Daily assignments, quizzes, and projects
- Participation on Discussion Days
Goal: 85% or higher in all areas. Grades are posted in Google Classroom and reported at semester’s end.
Internet & Technology
- Reliable internet is required for Google Classroom and Calendar.
- Parents should check their child’s Google Classroom regularly to monitor assignments and grades.
Academic Integrity & AI Use
- All work must be the student’s own.
- Proper citation is required for all sources.
- AI tools may be used for learning or brainstorming but not for completing assignments.
- Violations may result in loss of credit or removal from the course.
- Students must follow the Guidelines for Honest Use of AI, posted in Google Classroom.
