Classical Composition

Foundational writing and rhetoric for young students

Classical Composition introduces advanced elementary and middle school students to clear, thoughtful, and persuasive writing. Rooted in the progymnasmata, a sequence of classical exercises in narrative and expository writing, students draw on myths, fables, tales, proverbs, speeches, and moral lessons from the Western and Christian literary tradition.

Through 12 key exercises, students develop strong communication skills, learning to write with clarity, thoughtfulness, and persuasion. This foundational course prepares students for higher-level writing and rhetoric, making it an excellent option for advanced elementary and middle schoolers, as well as older students who wish to strengthen their writing fundamentals.

Builds the fundamental skills needed for confident communication and higher-level writing and rhetoric courses.
